Innis further pointed out that non-literate speech was the ultimate time-biased medium. It could not be transported at all, and encouraged memorization of lore which changed very little over the ages. Writing, on the other hand, was space-biased. Not only could it easily be transported, but its very existence was a blow against the magic, incantatory quality of the spoken word, against the tradition of the elders, against sacred authority.
